Hello
Can anyone recommend some side steps for a discovery 4 are the pattern ones any good of eBay ?
Or is it best to stick to OEM ones ?

Thanks

Hi

Personally I went with 3” rock sliders as I’ve seen where steps can become water traps leading to rusty sills, before fitting I sprayed the inside and outside with dinitrol, along with drilling several water drainage holes in the bottom of the rock sliders ,

Plus the plastic sill covers sometimes require them to be cut, for my rock sliders that wasn’t required as there are left in situ

Hope that helps as an option

Hi All,
Didn't want to start a new thread having found this one, as similar question really.
My side steps are rotting out on D4 - Need to ideally have steps for access requirements.
Have found the below. Has anyone used/fitted these at all or any other recommendations?
Interested to know if there are any opinions/reviews on them before purchasing.

Many thanks in advance

Replacement D4 Side Steps

Hi

Must confess as the side steps are rotted out I would first remove ur plastic sill covers and rear inner wheel arch liners to double check the rust hasn’t gone into those areas

Personally went with rock sliders as at least then they don’t become water traps as it’s becoming more evident as they age of sill and rear wheel arches are rusting out

If the sills etc are ok after cleaning them up would apply a good quality rust preventive like dinitrol inside and out so at least then it’s a good way to reduce the rusting problems

If u intend to fit these would ensure there sealed at the top only and then allowing any ingress of water to drain out the bottom, then checking them each year to also keep an eye on the sills and prevent any issues before they get bigger

Hope that helps

Many thanks for the advice - i shall certainly take it :vb-tup:

Recent service has picked up some slight service rust on the under pans so have got myself some lanogaurd and the job of some brushing/cleaning and applying. Allowing myself a day to remove as much trim and stuff as i can before cleaning/applying.

Really like your sliders but its not something i can stretch to at the moment.

Thanks again.

Hi

Ur so very welcome and pleased it helped

Funny enough I got them second hand for around £50-60 , sanded them down , drilled several holes in the bottom to allow any water to come out , then used a camera to inspect inside and that painted them inside and out with dinitrol

Know they can be expensive but was just lucky at the right time and place, seen Similar for around £350 so understand where ur coming from

Please check the disco 3 forum as there often coming up for sale , or other places like eBay or gumtree etc

Alas the normal side steps I’ve seen more and more rust issues , at least u know what to keep as eye on now and great u have it in hand

Would just hate for u to fit them and then later find out big holes in ur sills , ur be surprised how much those plastic sill covers can hide

Plus of course hope that doesn’t come across in trying to lecture u , plse let us know how u get on and we all like pictures plse
