D2, 04 V8, Tom woods prop shaft.

After changing out the front propshaft, rubber donut and getting the wheels balanced, I've now got a disco that is nice and smooth, shudder & vibration free all the way up to 130kph.

But, I notice now that especially when at freeway speeds, and only when backing off the accelerator, there is a noticeable shudder.

Any ideas what I should check?

Put it on flat ground securely chock it let the h/break and in neutral, check for play;

rear prop UJ and slide

t/f box front and rear outputs for lateral movement

f/r axel input pinion again lateral movement

If any of these have movement it will allow your prop to rotate of balance just before load/unload at its prime speed around 50MPH in a vehicle this is then transferred to the driver as vibration

In simple if you get 2 people and skipping rope as you going round you can get it to go slow enough (load/ unload ) that it still goes round but wobbles (vibration)

Thats the cheap fix if not get a bar in the g/box mounts (one near the exhaust the glue likes to perish) see if you can lift the box of the mounts

Still no joy and you sure its transmission related then its going to be torque converter territory worn as you back off the power unlocks the veins wear this will cause a slight vibration until the box changes down a gear this is normally noticeable more in top gear but should be preset in all gears you can check for this by restricting the box in the gear just before top and reaching the speeds and see if it still does it

It could also be a engine misfire as the fuel it backed off

Overall without been there thats as much as i can offer without seeing the vehicle i hope its something to pick at !

I have a judder on my 200tdi disco and so far I'm putting it down to my gearbox mounts that have come unbonded from the rubbers so I would check them on yours to see you should be able to get a lever inbetween the box and the crossmember and provide some lift and see if they separate like mine do. You should be able to do this on the ground
