My V8 has always had mayonaise on the inside of the oil filler cap, in winter and steam/water vapour coming out from the same place....is this normal? It isn;t head gasket gone, before anyone suggests as I have recently done that job. Any views gratefully received.

if you have had your head gasket done recently its possibly residue still inside the engine from this. i would get some good engine flush and put that through the system, then fit a new oil filler cap and see how you get on ;)

I reckon it's common on motors that only do short runs. It condensates in the rocker cover and mixes with oil residue hence the mayo.

you're right wes.

if the engine never gets to is operating temp due to short runs, condensation will build up inside

Does it have the right temp thermo-stat in it? If you have one for a hot climate it won't open at the right temp.
