Hey guys, I've had Landys for years, but only ever 110s and Defenders, so I was looking for a series to do a full restoration on as a project. What do you lot in the know think of this one?

Any positives/negatives would be helpfull, they're only after approx 1250 pounds as a sarting bid, pretty cheap me thinks!

If you can get it near that price you've had a result, thing is if you need bits for it don't think you will get them locally and soucing bits will be costly.

I would £1,300 for an s1 is good eating anywhere

the only thing that bothers me is the lack of registration, no idea what the rules are over in nz, is there a risk of that chassis number being in use by someone else or is it that it has been so long since it was registered that your equivalent of the dvla doesn't have a record of it. how easy is it to get it re-registered.

ther are plenty of s1 club members in aus and nz who could probably help with sourcing parts.

It does look reasonably complete. S1 parts are very expensive and difficult to come by over here. If you're doing a restoration, or even just getting it reregistered, you'll need lots of parts. I should think you'll be shipping them in from the UK - mind you we do that with our daily drivers anyway!

When I was looking for a project, I looked at a couple of S1s but parts availability scared me away. I ended up with a S3 SSW.

Honolulujoe - The rego probably did just expire, but its possibly its plates are running around on another S1! There's an S2 on TradeMe that's just finished which couldn't be reregistered because it didn't have a number stamped on the chassis. Worth checking.

Cheers for that guys, I was aware of the parts availability problems, already sourced a fair few parts for my defender from the UK.

I work in an engineering workshop, so have machine shop, metal shop and fibreglass bay at my disposal, and have no qualms about fabricating parts, welding etc.

Gel, I'm loving NZ, wish I'd moved here sooner! I was down at Burnham on a course recently, took a nice drive through Arthur's Pass to west coast, such an awesome place. Can't wait to get away from Auckland.

lol, hope you stopped in Arthurs for a coffee and met the Keas The mountains, rain forest, lakes and glaciers on the West Coast truely awesome. Been here 11 years and other than transit when we arrived, haven't been to Auckland yet! Got flights for May next year though - coming up for the Spandau concert.

Hope your mates down at Burnham aren't going to be setting off any more scrub fires today. Raging norwester and 27 degrees on dry scrub - typical conditions for the Burnham lot to start fires with their armourments.

Even though parts are so expensive, I think NZ must be about the cheapest place to buy a S1. Always a good few on TradeMe and the prices of road going LWB ones is unbelievable.
