Should the gearbox on a Series 3 get hot when driving? As in almost too hot to touch?

Mine seems to do that. I know there is oil in there as I checked it about three weeks ago and haven't been far since. There has't been any sign of it leaking either.

Thanks for any replies.

i once had a temp sensor attached to the outside of a gearbox and it read 90 degrees c, so yeah it should be normal.

Oh no.
Now Im thinking oil cooler with an electric pump................ please stop it. its going to weigh 10 tons at this rate.

on long journeys they will get really hot , main reason why later boxes use thinner oil
