Well thank you for the touching concern for my whereabouts fellas, it makes me feel very speacial.
Anyway, I was in the UK for a couple of weeks and then back and straight into playing soldiers with guns and cabbage patch gear, (on exercise in other words). Those killer penguins need controlling you know.

Where are you getting the shocks from? The body? Is the engine running at the time?
I assume you've had the battery checked and checked it for current draw?
I vaguely recall a car security device on Tomorrows World (years ago!)that selectively electrified the interior once activated - I think it was based on an ignition coil. Not sure it's allowed now though - mustn't hurt the scum trying to steal your stuff! Anyway, I was vaguely wondering if it could be related to the coil packs - it doesn't seem very likely but I can't see what else would generate enough voltage to give you a shock.
It does seem a bit improbable though.

i used ta get similar off me old 200tdi rangie only down the passanger side thou,never bothered searchin forra cause thou everything worked fine never had no issues with it. just used to **** me self laughing watchin the missus jumpin when her got zapped by it
Think it`s gotta be static. To avoid shocks hold a metal key/biro/etc firmly in hand and touch that against car first. The electricity will still flow to earth thro` you, but will pass thro` a wide area of flesh not be concentrated in a spark size pinpoint of skin. Battery drain at same time prob. a coincidence? Also is it getting on for "summer" down there? Drier, warmer, more likely to get static?

Hi Ive had a similar thing recently, I washed the carpets in the car with a vax carpet cleaner, and shortly after started getting shocks plus lost the instruments, the cabin temp lights were dimming, this was with ignition on or engine running. Noticed a footwell light pulsing as per cabin heater display removed it and problem solved. I can only assume that with the damp carpets condensation formed in the fitting and caused the short. Is your car damp inside, and can you see any clues such as pulsing lights or gadgets not working?

Thank you for your ideas chaps, some useful, some not!! I particularly like the penguin snot and clingfilm idea, not one I would have thought of, I wonder if it's in the owners manual???????
It's the wife's car anyway and it's not done it for a few days now, so I think I'll leave it and see how it goes. She'll soon nag me again if it does happen again.
