sorry, the one that says (what to do with my defender??)
I would say do it your self and take the mrs out for dinner with the money your save...
I don't know when it was last serviced but this is what I do...
6 monthly - Oil, Centrifugal Filter, Paper Filter and General check on brakes etc.
12 monthly - All 6 monthly. Fuel Filter, Fob Battery, G/Box, T/Box, Axles Oils changed (not necessary but I don't pay for lubes so I do it anyway). Wheels off brake check and a good look at all ball joints and bushes. Oh yea and an MOT as well
Seriously mate do it yourself it'll cost a lot less. Its piece of ****.
Oh yea I wash my K&N Filter 6 mty as well

honest mate its easy. There is really nothing technical to it. I will go through it quickly with you but I would try and get hold of a haynes manual or some research on the net. You need minimal tools.
To do the oil you need to do i open the sump plug (17 spanner) and the engine oil will drain (into a suitable container). Leave it to drip.
Right hand side of engine get hold of oil filter and unscrew it. If you can't get it use a filter wrench or hammer a screw driver through it to loosen it. You should see wat it looks like because you have the new one to look at in your other hand.
Put a bit of oil around the rubber seal and replace with new filter and do up hand tight. By now all the oil should be out so clean any swarf (small bits of metal) caught on the magnetic plug off. Replace the plug and do it up reasonably tight with 17 spanner.
THe centrifugal filter is housed in a dome with 2 bolts on it on the right hand side of the engine. Undo the two bolts and the housing comes away. Undo wing nut and replace filter do wing nut back up. Replace housing cover. Job done. Total Time so far 15 mins.
The fuel filter is underneath the drivers side rear wheel arch. Place a bowl underneath to catch any diesel that comes away. Undo the little catch and peel away the protective cover. THe filter is now visable. Unscrew the plastic electrical socket from the bottom of the filter (water sensor). Diesel in the filter will drain out. Change Filter. Replace electrical socket screw in gently (its only plastic i snapped it last time i did it). Fuel Filter Done. Total Time 25mins.
The TD5 takes approx 7.5 litres (can't remember the exact number off the top of my head). MAKING SURE YOU HAVE PUT THE SUMP PLUG BACK IN!!!! proceed to pur 7 litres into the engine. Wait for a bit. Check it on the dipstick. Top up until at the correct level.
TADA!!! You are nearly done. Now the TD5 has clever computers in it. When you turn on the ignition the Engine MAnagement (amber) light flashes. To prime the diesel system you need to press the accelerator 5 times before it goes off. The light will flash and you will hear a whirring sound as the pump refills the filter and bleeds the system for you. This takes some time so have a fag or a cup of tea. When you come back she should start up and robert is your fathers brother.
Total time including tea break 45mins. Wear gloves its a dirty job and dispose of oil/diesel responsibly. Remember to check your oil again after running for a while as some will have been lost in the new filters.
Oh I forgot the air filter!!! Airbox top right as you look in the engine. Unclip the little metal clips and remove from intake pipe and bottom of box. The filter is inside. tAke it out put the other one in it place and reclip it all up. Easy as pie.

Let the mrs wait for that dinner until next year and spend some dosh on a set of spanners,socket set, trolly jack and a tongs for removing the oil filter. Then try to learn all you can anyway you can and have a go there is nothing to it.
halfrauds are doing a "cheap" £50 toolbox and 127?? piece tool kit at the mo. Good for a starter toolbox.
