Nice, I wish I had bought a nice bit of kit like that.
I looked at them as a tow car before I bought the Disco. They have a good reputation but are normally 2wd for road use, engaging 4wd has no centre diff so you cant run it on the road. I figured this could be a pain on our snowy roads where main roads are often clear and side road are snow bound.
They are supposedly not comfortable on the road (if that matters) I doubt spares are as easy to come by and there are not the same number of enthusiasts around to help. Its also hard to find a decent one these days...........

I ran one for about 4 years.
Good for towing and can handle itself well enough off road, especially the short wheelbase version.
Getting spares is a real pain the arse (Go to the main dealer and bend over) and at the time finding a workshop manual was impossible.

whats yer disco like.... ive got an f reg fourtrak i might swop for it....
yes the one that blows out half a gallon of water and has a odd coloured front wing and passenger door.... going in for its mot at the end of the month.... probably have to get a new exhaust for it to get through.
pros, its smaller than a disco, engine seems more tourqy than the 200 tdi, starts first flick of the key whatever the weather, roof dont leak, simple engineering and electrics, leaf sprung so suspension firmer than disco.
cons, its smaller than a disco so cant get as much stuff in the back, only 3 door, rear seat is one piece so cant fold half of it, leaf sprung so not as comfy as the disco, uses more fuel than the disco... but that could just be cos the head gasket leaks so were running without a thermostat to help prevent overheating, so temp gauge is on cold most of the time.
part time 4wd isnt a problem ... push button on the dash to flick it in or out when necessary.
we run the fourtrak as our spare vehicle.. only on local runs, wife prefers it to the disco cos its smaller... i prefer the disco cos its bigger.
got a manual on cd off the internet

They are a good alround vehicle - we've had two, but they do rust really badly.
Mechanically strong and excellent in terms of the 2 or 4 wheel drive selectable.
In the snow just select 4wheel high and you'll go anywhere.
Definitely rust is the issue, the engine is pretty bullet proof. I did hear that Daihatsu might be pulling out of the UK market because of low volumes so I can see spares having to go completely independent, might not be such an issue because the Fourtrak hasn`t been imported new for a while anyway
ours is the opposite ... got a head gasket gone... but still runs.... only ever been welded for last mot , two small holes in rear floor.... first time its failed the mot in 7 or 8 years
btw the later ones are coil sprung... with the bigger plastic wheel arches....
i thought daihatsu had pulled out of selling in uk.

new goodyear eagle gt4 tyres all round
new clutch, new water pump, new timing belt/kit,
split charge system
electric sunroofs with new seals ect,
Saw the Fourtrak and it just seems to apeal to me, small wide funky, just very basic.

£1500!!! They must be joking; Fourtrack's fetch no money at all and especially with 150,000mls - it should be nearer to £700.
