hi,
i have a 1998 range rover p38 4.0 gems engine, i have been having some trouble with running on lpg, missfires etc, so decided to replace the ht leads. since doing this the engine wont even crank over. having read forums on here the CHECK ENGINE light is not lit, this could indicate becm and ecu needing resync?
If i bridge the starter relay pins i can make the starter turn although it doesnt fire up, so i know this is ok. with the key in crank position there is no power to the relay. from what i have read of this the relay is earthed out through the becm.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to proceed with this i really need the car back up and running again asap as its a daily driver.

Sorry so you did missed that. There maybe someone around with a syncmate for your model.

Maybe, you have of course checked the fuses and the starter relay i take it. Can't see how changing leads would desync it. Have you had battery off, that may have done it if you did not follow the correct procedure?

hi,

yes i check all fuses both under seat and in engine bay, i whipped the relay out and energised it and check resistance, all ok. if i bypass the relay and short the pins i can spin the engine over however it doesnt attempt to fire. but this ensures wiring to started is sound.

this is the second time this week i have had the leads of, the first set i ordered turned out to be wrong so had to swap back and order another set. after discovering it wouldnt crank i came on here had a look about and disconnecting battery for a while also making sure it has good charge seemed to be a must, so i disconnected it and put it on charge. just been out to it now and reconnected, it hasnt made any difference whatsoever and i still dont have "check engine" light on. i have my eka code and procedure if needed by the way,

If you don't have engine disabled message it won't need the EKA code. That is to do with alarm. Out of sync is code held in engine ECM not matching the one in the BECM. Until it does engine won't start. Or i think turn over on the petrol. I have the diesel which is slightly different, with engine disabled message you can't turn engine over, but if out of sync you can, but it won't start. Think on the petrol it stops engine from turning over or starting even if you jump starter. It is more than likely out of sync for some reason.

yes i think you right there from what ive learnt trauling the net. just hoping somebody has a syncmate thing if not i suppose i will have to bite the bullet and buy one i guess

If you aim to keep the car it maybe a good thing to have. Will save you a lot of problems if it ever happens again. Kept in glove compartment it maybe a god send sometimes.
 
FIXED !!!!!
A friend had some laptop based software that had the resync feature, plugged it in and did the resync and what do you know she fired right up.
