Probably a stupid question but:
is a rivet gun the same as a riv nut gun?

I've just picked up some second hand steps that I'll fit once I've cleaned them up, I'll need to fit a riv nut into the chassis for the bracket (any one know what size riv nut I'll need?)

Also (hopefully) getting a mantac plastic jobby from santa which I think uses riv nuts as well.

no the rivet nut tool has a threaded section that you screw the rivet nut on and then fit, the same tool can have a rivet fitting as well

No problem, also be aware that nut rivets come in aluminium and steel

Steel as it wont suffer steel/aluminum corrosion and will be stronger, but are stiffer to install
