Applications. The number in the bracket refers to the diagrams.
(1) 4-blade, this is the most common relay. Use for single circuit on/off applications such as spot lamps, horns, rear screen heater etc.
(2) 4-blade fused, similar applications to (1) but these have a replaceable fuse in the accessory circuit.
(3) 5-blade changeover, use for applications to change between two circuits, eg, electric aerials.
(4) 5-blade double make and break, to power two circuits which are independant when off.
(5) 5-blade twin make and break. Similar to (1) but with two blades at 87 feed.
Relays with diode (6&7).
These relays have a diode in the coil circuit to protect against voltage spikes in sensitive circuits. Supplied with loose bracket.
Micro relays.
These are smaller than the standard relays and have a different pin layout. Pins 30 & 87 are 6.3mm and pins 85, 86, & 87a are 4.8mm. With diode protection for sensitive circuits. No brackets on these relays.

Soooooooo, from what nobber says & what yer diagrams show, he appears to have a 5 blade change over, which is fine but he only needs to take the power to accessory off of either 87 0r 87a & for safety's sake insulate the other blade?

exactly as you said - but 87 is preferred take off. 87a can be secondary take off for second item (2nd light or summat) or the n/c (normally closed) contact. If using a relay holder (preferred method) no need to insulate 87a as it is protected inside of holder.
Easy to check if a changeover relay or not - connect summat to 87 and summat else to 87a - if only one works at a time its changeover, if both work together it is secondary take-off. Or use a Multimeter

If its a change over relay (3 above) then one will be on all the time and the switch will switch to the other. So No.
If it is a double output relay (4 & 5 above) then Yes.
