need your help on this one ! is replacing a rear wheel bearing a diy job ? i have no access to a garage so its a roadside repair job! i'm fairly competent with a set of sockets. cant find any details on rave, if its not a diy jobby how much is it likely to cost in a local indy garage? cheers for your input on this

Not sure about the rears, but I believe the rears have cartridge bearings that are pressed in. This is a DIY job if you have access to a 50 tonne press. Again not sure but I am sure you can buy the whole hub for a little more than the cost of the bearings alone. Dont take this as gospel though as I am working from memory of a job I almost did for a friend 2 yrs ago.

Update - just found this on another site Hub and Wheel Bearing Replacement (Range Rover 4.0/4.6/P38)

I am assuming you have a P38 ?????? if you have a classic its half an hour tops, and it is obligatory to do it at the side of the road.

They look like the badgers. Note "can be replaced with the right equipment" comment.

so its worth getting them, and buying some guy a few beers from an engineering place and getting them pressed in then, rather than pay £300+ (that's what i saw in ebay)

It would be my choice if you have a local chap with the gear. But I am sure somewhere I have seen an advert for re-conditioned units with new bearing fitted in old hubs. But unfortunatly I cant remember where or who.

well chaps thanks for all the feedback ! turns out wasn't bearing after all ! had 2 loose wheel nuts doooooh!!!!!
