right, I have an aftermarket head unit(with rear sub out phono R and L), just got a second hand rear sub box to put back in the hole in the rear door where a previous owner had removed it!, behind the head unit is the subwoofer wires, which have been cut off at this end too!,

How do I connect these wires to the sub out phonos? ie the red and black to each phono wire, and the shield to both phono common?, I have tried many combinations, but nothing seems to be working at the moment?

I know there is a lot in the web about this, but cant seem to find an answer that states exactly what to do!

The model of disco is? and your right there's pages on how to connect head unites to the bass amp in the back door.

For a D1 there are four circuits at the rear sub amp to check.

1. 12+v amp power taken from the head unit supply, (light green/orange wire at the amp
2. 12+v amp switching wire supplies and switched by the head unit (purple/yellow at the amp
3. Audio signal cable (black & white wires in a screened cable at the amp, which are red and a black wire at the head unit connector)
4. Local earth wire is black at the amp

As the amp is mono you will have to combine the L & R channels from the head unit.

thanks for that.. I have now spliced the black and red wires from the sub together, and connected them via the centre core of a phono, the 'shield' from the sub to the outer core of the phono, the phono then plugged into the left sub out. The result is one of the two sub speakers seems to be working, just not quite as impressive as i hoped!, oh well it's all back together for today, and will play with it again later..

Off to replace the driver window regulator now, should be more straighforward I reckon!

All I did was connect the red and black wires to head unit switched live and earth respectively. The woofer is supplied with the audio signal via an amp behind the glovebox somewhere. But after the speakers blowing (both cones had rotted) I fitted a proper sub and amp

That's because you only receiving the bass from the left phono output.
You may have a faulty loudspeaker as they both receive the same identical signal.
