One of my rear seat-belt buckles has just spewed its guts out! All the bits just pulled out with the square metal belt hook. I think I've got all the pieces but a little unsure how it is supposed to go back together and what holds it in. Can it be fixed or is it new buckle time?

Get any similar age Rover type buckle from a breakers, Dremel it apart and take pics & notes as you go through the surgery.

You can repair them.
 
Damn. There was a part missing. That's me f*cked.

It is quite simple. The buckle pushes a piece of plastic down the side and out of the way and the L shaped piece of metal springs into place and a little metal bar rolls up to lock the L shaped piece in place. When you release a second piece of plastic pushes the metal roller back down and the L shaped piece pops back out and the buckle is released.

This would be the binnacle (that appears to be how it is described) that is in the 2 rear seats in the middle. As far as I can see it is a seat apart job to get at the damn bolt to get it off.

RR.net says same parts were fitted to Pug 405 in the 90s, some Passats and various other cars.
 
All my rear seat belt buckles are suffering loss of covers... That is to say the plastic covers have split (I think they no likee a heavy speaker resting on the seat when I took them to gigs.

One is simply loose, one is actually in half and the one at the drivers side rear is in about 6 bits. All glueable, but annoying specially since they sit down in a wee hole to keep them away from danger :rolleyes:o_O
 
They only bolt in wive a big bolt which is real easy to undo and they have to work for mot man so spend a bit of folding.
