Hi guys.

I posted this query in an old thread but had no response so am starting anew.

I replaced both rear driveshafts about a year ago and it threw up the 3 amigos. I was busy and ignored it but now investigating and the ABS sensor is rubbing against the driveshaft. I marked the sensor with paint and once back in its hole in the hub it rubs on the shaft. My vehicle is 2A1…. I therefore fitted the advised part (TOB000070). Does anyone know if the superseded part (TOB000110) might be the part I need. And if not then can anyone suggest what is wrong because it seems the ABS sensor and the shaft I’ve fitted aren’t compatible.

Thanks in advance
Neil

Hi and thanks for your response.

Yes it’s been scanned by an automotive electrician who confirmed which ABS sensor was throwing the 3 amigos up. He also confirmed it was being hit by something in the hub and my investigation has shown it is hitting the driveshaft. I’ve installed a new ABS sensor and done a paint check. I can’t see how the shaft and sensor are compatible. I’ve even spaced the sensor out with a washer which stops the sensor rubbing on the shaft but then prevents it from reading with the magnets in the bearing.

It turns out that the supplier sent 2 different types of drive shaft. One was pre chassis number 2A3….. and one was after. I ordered 2 of the same type but an error was made their end. They have been great in solving this

Good that you found a resolution.
Who was the supplier?

It was Advanced Factors but for my mind they have been brilliant. Every organisation makes mistakes but how they’ve dealt with this after a year has been superb. They only stock quality parts and it goes to show that service is as important as price.

I agree - I use them too, along with a few others on here. They are very good at customer service.

Thanks for coming back with the solution. Many don't!!

So to be clear are we saying that a rear driveshaft with an ABS reluctance ring is a different part from the later one without it ??

Certainly front shafts I have simply removed the ring and all good.

This is new and key information so thanks.

Hi Andy. I knew I had an unusual problem when I didn’t hear from you or Nodge!

Your statement above is incorrect.

TOB000070, which is driveshafts for pre 2A3…. is supplied with a reluctor ring which should be removed when fitting for later pre-facelift vehicles (I don’t know which chassis numbers).

After 2A3…. the vehicle needs TOB000110

What I can’t remember is whether TOB000110 came with a reluctor ring.

So in summary;

Rear driveshaft assembly with part number TOB000070.
This replaces part number TOB000000. This assembly includes the CV joints.

Suitable for:
Freelander 1 from vin 1A316655 to vin 2A385539

AND

Drive shaft assembly for the rear axle with part number TOB000110. This drive shaft is suitable for models from early 2002 onwards.
Suitable for:
Freelander 1 from vin 2A385540

Thanks for the clarification.
