So I have a 1984 series 3 SWB and I have a couple of questions. There is a plastic pipe coming from what I think is the rear axle breather. The pipe has broken and leads to the front. Is this normal? What is it for?

Also, how do I tell if I have an early Rover, late rover or EMV axle?

Extended breather pipe, usually goes up the front of the bulkhead into the engine bay or up a snorkel for wading in deep water.
