Half way through a clutch change on a 1999 freelander 1 2.0D and I'm stumped.

Gearbox back on and bolted up. Trying to refit the IRD and it won't go into the gearbox far enough. The shaft goes in and no matter how hard I try, It doesn't go all the way in.

Needs to go in about another 15mm before the casings meet up and all the holes for the mounts on the other side line up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the splines aren't lined up. I find fitting the NS drive shaft so it can be rotated , hopefully lining up the splines.

Cheers Nodge, will try that in morning. I was turning the propshaft end as I was trying to fit it and could see the gearbox shaft moving
