i did a cluch change at the weekend, droped the box out of the bottom. when i re fitted the propshafts (it said in the haynes manual to mark the position of the prop when removing) the mark had rubbed off the front shaft so i just put it on. will this cause a problem??? why do they say to do this??

ps i only removed shaft fron transfer box not diff end as i tied then up out the way.

Marking the position is 'best practice' as it can make a difference. IIRC the bolt pattern on the prop end is not a square so will only fit on it two orientations. Should there be any vibration then refitted 180 degree round and try again.

I've not had any problem with this in my experience.

I've never marked a propshaft and always just put em back randomly. Never had a problem.
As Andy says above there are only two ways it can go on due to the holes not being in a square pattern.

No problems here either.

and some of my balance weights have fallen off :D

i think it's just belt and braces from haynes manual.

cheers for the advice, just wondered as it clunks about a bit down there but think thats mainlt due to worn diffs.

think i just notice the clunking more as i havent put centre console or any of the like back on due to breaking reverse light switch and no point outting it back on untill i got a new one.
