Again seconded about the regular service.
I take my TD5 round Europe most years and never think twice about any problem because it get serviced and checked on a regular basis. 2500 miles is no problem in a month once a year without any special checks. Apart from servicing it at around half the mileage recommended because I do it myself, get into a routine of getting a nice bright torch and shining it in every crevice, nook and cranny you can find around the engine, gearbox, diffs, brakes etc every week.
First time you do this have piles of cloths with you so can remove any trace of oil, sludge or general crap you find.
Next time you have a look then any leak, drip, accumulation of rubbish you come across you know that a problem is in the offing so you can deal with it before it becomes a major failure. For example have found things like FPR leaking before any performance issues arose and minor leak from radiator hoses before any major cooling issues arose.
It takes literally 4 minutes a week with a torch to make sure that your LR stays running as it should if you can remember what it looked like the week before.
May your TD5 run for ever
