Hi all . well in true d2 style , my d2 5 days before the mot , has started leaking oil out the bottom arm on the pas box and the pump somewhere?.
so got some work to be doing on the old beast!! not done this job before so have had a good read up on rave . it says got to drain down coolant and move the ace so you can get to bolts on the box . my question is to anyone that has done this . is draining coolant a must? and what time should i allow for this job? , im good with the spanner ,but will be doing it on my back on the driveway .so any top tips would be great .

remove engine cover and rad cover and cowl and fan you can then get at the bolts holding bottom steel water pipe undoing them can give you enough flex with thermostat housing to get box in /out without draining system ,i never remove battery ,ecu or there box theres enough room to get at everything without jacking body away from axle will move ace ram if fitted to reach side cover front bolt in wheel arch , a thin chisel or some sort of wedge helpd when removing uj from box ,ensure steering wheel doesnt fly around once uj is disconnect as rotary coupler can get damaged, you must fit uj back to box when box is centralised ensure steering wheel is at same time an extra pair of hands helps with that

Thank you for the tips . Think I will try your way 1st. anything to save taking more off than I need too .
Do recon boxes need anything doing to set them up before you put them in other than making shaw it's centred .

no, a lift up with box will be a great help it is very heavy on your own, and once systems refilled turn wheels lock to lock a few times that will bleed air out , i never needed to undo bleed screw

Great, thanks for reply again , one last thing . Is there anything else you think I should get in ready for doing the pas box .IE small parts like nuts' seals' bolts O rings or clips that you found broke or needed doing while the steering was in bits .

just a litre or 2 of cold climate fluid , you could get the 2 o rings for pipe to box , and emptying res helps before you start
