Im going to be doing mine today, but would like to see a piccy first, if anyone has one of theres without the sills, before rock slidres or wotever, please post on here, will be doing a great favour :)

I've ripped the ones off mine. but only beacause the thingas rotten. Do a search for discovery rock sliders plenty of pics out there of em without the plastic sills.

they look fine without the trims - seems to me the only purpose for the sill covers is to hold muck next to the sills so they rot away:D

cheers guys, all done now, rotting away nicely, gunna be sorting the welding out this monththen the rock sliders, will keep all posted :)

This is what I found after i had taken my plastic sill covers off;

Be prepared to get busy with your angle grinder and MIG welder. Alternativley, take the advice of my Mother, and 'don't pick at it, you'll only make it worse!'

neat welds moneypit, what thickness steel did you use as repair sections?

As much as I would like to take the credit for the welding, that wasn't me. All I did was the prep work and the paint. If I'd have known back then just how much welding work the bloody vehicle required then I would have bought myself a MIG.

I can tell you that it was 3mm plate though.

sounds about right-vast sums for a repair, I've now bought my own mig:D
but some kind soul has pointed out it would be easier to replace the whole sill with 2" box section - last longer to:rolleyes:

50mmx50mm is no good you need 40mmx80mm minimum for new sills. ideal size to use is 40mmx100mm or 50mmx100mm

I was lucky and there was no rot what so ever (warm climate) I fitted sliders/jackable sills and then used a strip of reinforced rubber which I glued to bridge the gap between body and slider, looks good and stops the crap getting in there.

If anyone is interested I will grab a couple of pics?

regards

Dave
