Hi all
One of the fixes I've done on my rangie has failed already.
The parking sensors weren't clicking so I replaced the ecu with a used unit. Then all but one was clicking.
So looked into that and it was the wiring to that sensor.
All good for a while.
Then no clicking again.
Duff used ecu I thought so got another unit. But that's not working either. This new unit is a refurb item.
My initial thought is it must be faulty but is there something else it could be? No clicking front or rear so unlikely that both looms stopped working at the same time surely?
 
The wires are very fragile and prone to shorting out on the sharp metal bumper support so I wonder if a short is causing the ECU to fail or fault out?
Are there any fuses relating to parking sensors ?
Do you have any light or sound when you press the parking sensor switch ?
But as Ant says, get that Allcomms on order as peeing in and into the wind without it or other dedicated diagnostics.
 
It has a 5amp fuse but you know if that's the issue as there isn't any sound or light flashing.
I might be wrong but surely a short would cause the fuse to fail.
I could do with trying a known good unit as unfortunately used units will always be a risk. Might see if a local breaker has any I could try with a view to buying if it works

Mine were shorting out on the bumper support but didn't blow any fuses and on a different subject my LED number plate bulbs were almost catching fire but that just caused me to have loads of other lighting error warnings but none relating to the number plate lights. These are not entirely conventional electrical systems as you know but more like conventional parts like bulbs and sensors but controlled by 10's of computers all linked to each other hence the need for diagnostics to diagnose the fault and why the faults don't always present themselves with traditional symptoms.

Trying to figure these vehicles out sometimes is a bit like sending Terminator to your GP:)
 
Yes have the continuous beep and the flashing light. It's does point towards ecu failure as no ticking sensors front or rear. But as you say. Diagnostics are the way forward.
 
Mine had the continuous beep also when my wiring was shorted but it's not easy to get to without removing the bumper. Mine first did it when I fitted my towbar
 
Strangely enough when I fitted the first replacement ecu there was a different tone continuous beep. This was because one of the sensor wires had split
Where any of your sensors ticking?
 
i can't remember, I had to take the bumper on and off a few times and tape up some wires until I got the single beep and then each one worked ok
You could try a third ECU or wait for your diagnostics and see what they say or get your hand up behind the sensors and have a root around to see if the continuous beep changes or stops as you move the wires
 
The sensors on my classic are somewhat less subtle,

You see a wall falling over in the rear view mirror.....
The Loud bang possibly scratched the bumper, possibly....

Sometimes the old ways are better.
 
I have been doing a bit of work on my mates defender which doesn't have parking sensors and have nearly reversed into a couple of things as everything i have driven for years has had parking sensors that i have become very reliant on.
