hi guys (n gals)

Has anyone been running their P38 totally on home made biodiesel?

I have, and have replaced the fuel pump 3 times in 4 months. the best I have managed is 6 weeks before the fuel pump dies.

I know I am only using Britpart pumps but 6 weeks?

Has anyone converted a P38 to an in-line fuel pump rather than in-tank? I assume an in line pump will be more resilient than an in tank?

Any thoughts? all help gratefully accepted:confused:

Even Britpart will have some guarantee, after all 3 pumps in 4 months is a bit rich. I would be looking at other possibilities including the fuel, as you suggest. I am not sure if they are designed to run on "Moonshine".

My p38 runs on 100% home made bio with no probs.
Are you making the perfectly legal to make and use bio yourself?? How do you de-meth it??
Methanol will cause probs with some rubber and plastics.

use parts with Viton seals, not silicone.
It's vital you do thorough titration tests on your homebrew.

Viton is a must with bio!!!!
Incorrect titrations will not affect the fuel pump....undereacted fuel is ok in a p38....they will run on wvo as well as bio.

Thanks for the responses, to recap, I am doing full titration, to remove excess methanol and other waste I wash the fuel until not only no soap, but the water is totally clean then run on drying cycle for 2 hours. (goldenray 50 ltre unit)

I checked that the BMW engine with Bosche pumps work fine with Bio, but nowhere says about the pump. One thing I noticed when I put the pump in this morning was:

a. It would not start!!!
b. there are air bubbles on the engine side of the filter (?)

I am wondering if one of the lines is blocked (Bio release the crap from tank and pipes) I tried removing the fuel line form the tank side of the filter to no joy - How the hell does this come off? the idea being I will undo the pipe from the tank and air line the pipe to check it is clear. I will use a new filter (though the one on is only 6 weeks old)

I did try the new pump and old pump when I had them out and the old (6 weeks....) one did not run but the new one did. If the fuel line is partly blocked it may have put too much strain on the pump? SO, how do I get that fuel line off the filter?

just a thought, if I can't get the pipe off the filter housing, if I remove the filter and air line the pipe from the tank side, should that be able to clear it or is there something in the way?

Good way of splitting the tank seams.
