Although my key still opens the vehicle manually and starts the car the remote opening / closing has stopped working - the car was in the garage ans the battery was dsconnected for a little while

I have replaced the batteries but still no joy

Assuming batteries ok in remote, and your`s is pre `97 lock door with key, then press lock on remote, this should re-sync the key. If post`97 the key should have already re-synced when put into ign-lock. Do you know your EKA code and the procedure? If not suggest you check it out before going any further. If vehicle starting ok ,as you say, maybe you had a lucky break!

Does the little red light come on on the FOB when you press a button?
