Hi
I am looking to do an oil and filter change on my P38 2001 Diesel. It has not had an oil change for some 30k miles and is now on 112k miles so its well overdue due one!. I have purcahsed Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 5w-40 synthetic engine oil and a Bosch Oil Filter.

My question is should I also do an engine flush before i put new oil in.?
From what i have read it can cause as much damage as good, and I guess I will get mixed answers here.

Also the location of the oil filter!? and sump bolt? I have read to slide under from the passengers side of the car but even by refering to the Rave CD i could not locate them (tips!).

thanks

Oil filter is on side of engine behind fuel injector pump. 36 mm socket required. Sump plug is in bottom of sump as always. You can buy flushing oil, trick is not to rev engine whilst flushing just let it tickover. Unless you live in Greenland 5w40 is a little thin, 10w40 is better for this climate.

Hi

For my tuppence worth, I concur on the 10W/40 maybe even up to 15W/40 over the hotter summer months.

I don't do it, but seen recommended on here changing the oil twice yearly, once going into autumn, once into spring.

Cheers

Adam
