firstly you need to check fluid level just to be sure. make sure the gearbox motor that moves to the required gear is actually moving, you should be able to hear this if your under there and someone moves the gear lever(someone you trust as the car could move off if the brakes arent pressed hard!
thanks gavbriggs i know fluid level ok i will crawl under later and report back.spoke to landrover man today wants £100.00 or so his words to come out to me and plug in to read codes.
