I have an interesting problem.......... I have recently rebuilt the engine after hydro locking it. New piston and full set of rings, conrod and a set of shells.

Engine sounds and runs great without any smoke or strange noises. I have been off road today in the quarry running for 4 hours at low speed in low ratio and the readings were normal. Drove home at 70mph and the temp gauge rose to the edge of the red arc and when sat idling the oil light comes on. It did the same yesterday after a long run at similar road speeds.

Engine is a 200 Tdi with an Allard full size intercooler. The radiator is also brand new, it does have some silt in it but is not blocked.

No water in the oil and vice versa and no smoke. I changed the oil sensor and that did not resolve the problem.

Any suggestions?

lol Well you replaced the shells was there any wear on the crank? or should I say how much wear was on the crank?

Crank was fine. I was going to replace it but it measured up fine.

Cooling...... I just took the intercooler and radiator off. Put a light behind them and was unable to see through either of them..... I have jet washed them both and can now see daylight. Could this have been the problem. I assume, getting hot and the oil gets so thin the pressure drops?
