A lot of people do tighten these with a chisel and get away with it. Get it wrong and you end up with gearbox problems. If you run an old Landie you need to have some mechanical ability, they are an easy car to learn on and plenty of help from this and other forums. Where are you located ?

You end up with problems if its undertightened. I tightened mine up with a chisel and within a few miles it had loosened up again. thats the point I said F-it and made my own tool by welding a bit of scaffold tube to a socket and cutting the castellations with a grinder

Post is about £6 but I do ask for a returnable £20 deposit to try and ensure they come back to me for others to use. The tool has the correct 1/2" square for a torque wrench as well as a 30mm hexagon. If you look on Ebay you will see what they are like.

The other prob doing it with a chsil is bit on metal chipping off and enering the box,
Yes as stated the tabs are shorter...been a while since I used them...
I made mine from an old socket welded to a short section of scaffold tube and a grinder to cut the slots.

tabs will just bend over the nut whether they fit in the castellation or not

To my shame I used a hand chisel then nipped it up a bit more with the air hammer. Got it fing tight but no idea what torque! You can use a old clutch plate as a tool to lock the mainshaft when tightening, if you bolt a strip of metal to it.
