Half of my heated screen is not working. I looked at the wiring diagram and noticed the left and right are fused separately so thought ha it will be a fuse gone but alas no.

Before I go wading into the wiring does anyone know of any common problems?

There are separate circuits for left and right. There are separate left and right plugs to the screen too. So you really need to remove the scuttle panel, and test you have power at the screen plugs.

Are the connections inside or outside of the car?

Under the scuttle panel, each side of the screen.
Remove the wiper arms, and a few plastic retaining studs, job done. The engine ECM is under there too, so it's a good time to check it's not getting wet, and that scuttle drains are clear too.
Clean up the plastic bits, when it all goes back together.
