took the s3 for its mot this morning and it passed

gobsmacked but saw no need to argue with them

two advisories

1) leaking oil - I managed to keep it at a wry smile, chaps its an old land rover

2) rear diff leak

needless to say I am over the effing moon, after two and a half years to change a bulkhead.

What a result. Mine also had 'oil leek' as an advisory. I suppose if you have enough of them they all make one big un by the time they hit the floor.

the thing that amazed me most was they probed it and it passed, they used a turbo test with an average absorption coefficient (means **** all to me

) of 2.55 against a limit of 3

I have ordered a band for 3 pm to play the grand march of aida and maybe la marseillaise as I drive up the road fingers in the air treating the neighbours to plenty of diesel fumes

plan is navy blue for the main body and white for the roof - including the window panels - and wheels

I am sure this has been asked before rough guide for how much paint to do the roof, roof sides and wheels and how much for the main body anyone.

chassis and arches already done in dinitrol black

Not sure what happened there tried to reply! Anyway, just got my S3 re sprayed, prices varied massively along the way from €1k to €4k, I eventually went with a guy for €1,250. ( Top end of my budget!) This was for full body, we agreed that I would do the prep work this helped to keep price down so I pretty much handed it over back to bare metal.

I got the wheels shot blasted for €100 including spare and got the tub cappings and all the galvanise re done for €30 which I think was really worth it they came up brilliant. In the price he gave me he did welding to bulkhead and small bit of filling here and there on body. I put all the bits back on I.e lights, mirrors.

It turned out well few hairy bits here and there but it's 41 yrs old so didn't want to loose that on it by filling every little knock etc...

hi, sorry I wasn't clear, roughly how much paint would I need to buy, will be doing the painting myself hopefully by spray, would say 5 litres be enough for the body bits and say another 5 for the roof inside and out

i think i had 5 originally, and managed most of the car, but needed another tin for the last bits.
5 litres will do you for now.

Congratulations on the MOT. It's been interesting following the progress of the bulkhead swap and build up.
You can enjoy the pleasure of driving it a bit now. Is she a keeper?

thx, definitely intend to keep

and hopefully pass down to one of the kids, I do love the stories of landies staying in the family through the generations

think it will be new chassis time in a couple of years though and a bigger diesel when/if the engine wears out. I do like the standard diesel but a bit more oomph might be nice

also wish I had got my finger out and done it more quickly

Spoke to guy who painted mine last night, he used 5ltr for main body and 2.5 of limestone for hardtop and roof etc... He gave me a few bottles of touch up abd still has a small amount left for when I slap it off something. Good to hear MOT went well. You should post a few pics of it

I usually do the last few mm by hand so they are practically touching, just gives the old neighbour a bit of a better view when he is backing out of his drive - told him its safer to back in and front out - as it is hard to see round a landy and the chevy
