that could be a photo of my rear wheels. So what exactly do i need to order to fix it? I might change the bearings aswell while its all opened up as i have a bit of a whine. Shopping list or part no's would be greatly appreciated. I've an 88 110 with a salsbury axle and drum brakeslooking like this oily mess.

that looks like a half shaft seal is gone to me, if it was the hub seal it would be coming out the back of the hub onto the stub axle and then spayed out onto the discs.if its the bolts that are leaking then i would say its a case of whipping the drive hub off and resealing round it with fresh RTV silicone, if its the centre cap leaking then you need new seals im afraid.
often a sign of blocked breather pipe , try a new cap , theres no seal to stop oil reaching the drive member /hub cap ,the oil lubricates the splines ,unlike later 300 tdis and td5s which run dry due to having a seal on halfshaft and can suffer a god deal of spline wear poor wheel bearings would cause inner hub seal to leak on inner side of tyre not outeranother feckin oil leak, 3 out of 4 hubs are leaking now...
It looks like the oil is leaking out of one or two of the drive flange securing bolts, and from what I can see nowhere else.
So, is this the inner hub seal, or the half shaft seal?
Cheers,
Dobbs.

Hi Dobbs, I changed all 4 hub caps a few months back and all was fine for a while then the oil spots appeared again. Not sure if its due to oil/grease getting hot then thinner enabling it to find the smallest gaps? ( thanks for the part no.s btw.)Well look at that. Some new hub 'caps' (FRC4377) and everything is fine and dandy. I never would have thought those caps would be all that's sealing the hub. Although I did find one hub different to the other three - that's the army for you I guess.
