Hi
A potentially naive question from a newbie.

I've just been replacing rear brake pads on my disco 2 and found some oil on the disc and brake pads but the calipers look dry. Is there anywhere else it could come from?

maybe the big oil filled axle behind the disc might have something todo with it ....

uggh yes - thanks. Though the axle didnt look like it had an obvious leak.

I've had the car a month, first 500 miles were fine and then the transfer box seals, the power steering pump and the door actuator, heater plugs and the viscous fan have all needed replacing. I'm learning about this car fast!

Its just the hub seal that needs replacing really easy job todo

You got 500 miles before getting the spanners out

I'm doing a hub seal today, the parts are about £5 per side, its just getting the caliper off i'm worried about - tight and rusty.

My one is totally drenched in oil from top to bottom, dripping off, but she still brakes nicely, just wont pass the MOT i think.:doh:

thanks guys the outside of the disc is clear but its a little damp on the inside. SOunds straight forward - ive just been looking at it in the Haynes manual. thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Mine took three hours total, make sure you only push the new seal in flush with the hub, my old ones were in way too far! It goes in lip first, fill the groove in the seal with some lithium grease and go easy when sliding the hub back on.

Not sure if people realise but this is a disco2 we are talking about. If it is oil from the axle then it MIGHT be the O ring on the hub.
