Can anyone settle this for me once and for all, as I'm getting very frustrated and annoyed with 'Paddocks' now! My problem is as some of you may know, I'm doing a discovery engine conversion into my 87 defender. I have completed the conversion now apart from fitting the exhaust,(exhust part is in hand) and oil cooler pipes.
The reason I haven't got the oilcooler pipes sorted yet is because 'paddocks' keep sending me the wrong parts!! I asked someone on here where they got the oil cooler pipes I needed to fit this disco engine conversion into my defender adaption I'm doing, and they said 'paddocks'. So I contacted paddocks, told them what I was doing, and they said I needed td pipes, and adapters to fit on the disco rad. So I ordered these, when I tried to fit them, the td pipes were the right length, and they fitted ok at the rad end with the adpaters, but at the end where they screw into the oilfilter housing, they didnt fit! (wrong type of thread).
So I phoned them, and after much time waiting on the phone, they then said sorry, we told you the wrong thing, what I actually need is defender oilcooler pipes, but because apparently the defender oilcooler pipes have female ends that connect to the oil filter housing, so I need some male adapters for them. (also I have issues with imperial, and metric fittings with this conversion)
So I ordered the adapters, and when they turned up, they are the wrong type of thread for the disco oil filter housing, so I cant do it that way either, so not only have I had to send back the TD pipes, I now have to send back these adapters they sent me, and hopefully cancel the defender oilcooler pipes they said they would send me after the xmas hols.
(I just hope I can contact them before they send me these defender pipes out, as for one thing the postage is costing me loads too!) I know loads of people have done this disco 200tdi engine conversion into a defender using the disco rad too. But I dont recall anyone else having the problems on any of the read ups on here getting the correct pipes! So can an expert on here PLEASE! advise me as to exactly the pipes, and fittings I need to do this??
I should of done what I was going to do in the first place, and get my disco pipes that came with the engine lengthened by 'pertek' The reason I didnt do that was because one of the pipes got squashed in transit when my engine was being delivered. But I'm so fed up now with too'ing and throwing of parts to paddock, I think it would be better to buy a new pipe, then get that, and the other non damaged one I have altered by 'pertek'.
But I am curious, all the people that have done this conversion on here, how did you get around this problem?? As it is driving me insane! I could have finished this ages ago if it wasnt for this problem with the oil cooler pipes. I mean surely so many people have done this conversion now, I would of though a place like 'Paddocks' would have known exactly what I needed!?
They are one of the biggest landy parts suppliers, surely loads of people must have inquired about this to them many times before?
Please help if you can, it would be much appriciated! And A merry christmas, and happy new year to all!
