Looks like a good condition old girl. Only $2K - wow - would be up for $5K - $6K on a forecourt here.

its only a grand in sterling and if a house purchase wasn't imminent I'd be on his door step first thing Saturday morning to snap it up for the rarity of the early black window frames alone
from what I know most have been scrapped or are now in a museum where top gear used to be filmed.

I think it'll be a good few years before Freelanders start appreciating as classics. Can't really depreciate much though!

All landrover's drop like bricks in price, then steadily creep back up. L series will be the first to start appreciating, there getting rare, are nice and easy to work on, and there's alot of 2nd hand cheap parts out there. Plus there the last real Landrover before other companies moved in.

It costs to much to ship them down here. There used to be hefty import taxes - but not for a while - there's probably GST (NZ's VAT) to pay. There is though a lot of regs and red tape. It needs to be spotlessly clean and will need to pass strict compliance tests to be allowed on the road here - all adding cost and hassle. I'm sure a car that's been on the UK's salt lade roads since '97 will be pulled up for lots of repairs before its allowed on the road.

Yeh basically the cost of a shipping container + insurance + GST - plus the cleaning & compliance testing.

so are you telling me these early freelanders are worth money

Not really I dont think, LRO did the piece on the prototype and pre production LR's people have got recently and the early FL was one of them so that might push prices up slightly for the really early ones with the black window frames and the 507 plate, price is about right for this one maybe slightly high for the mileage but i suspect the seller doesn't know how early in the production it is

For a grand, that's a good Freelander enthusiast's car :)

Its a shame there doesn't appear to be any UK online resource for showing the VIN number of a car from its registration plate - would be able to tell exactly how early it is from that. The only thing you can tell is that it was first registered on 12th December 97.

As cloning of vehicles is till a problem in the UK there's a good reason for that! usually its only manufactures parts software that will tell you that,

I'll dig the article out when I get 5 minutes see if I can scan it in

This is worth a look if you like the early ones
