Hi all,

Have recently got quite a bit of slack in the front prop/diff and the diff is quite whiny when decelerating. On top of this a metallic knocking noise has arisen that gets faster the more the acceleration.
I have had uj's go in the past but this sounds different. Can anyone shed some general light on the noise?

Check the level of lube in your diff and in your swivel housings.

It sounds as though one of your CV's might be running dry!!

I had something similar when mine were topped up with oil, which was lost through the wipes seal over a long period, and not noticed!!

That's why I now use the one-shot grease.

Would all that running dry be causing the uj to heat up which in turn is causing the bad slack on pick up? Thanks for the help oldseadog!!

Errr ... probably not as the UJ is on your propshaft and your CV is in your swivel balls!!

If your UJ is heating up I would deffo check that you have some oil in your diff!!

Yeah sorry I meant the diff heating up! Doh!! I've got some John deere diff oil in the shed I used to use in the ranger. Whats the best for this?
