Strange noise started this week. As i accelerate or even just rev the engine there is a sound of liquid trickling through whatever pipes are behind the dash or rear of the engine.

Has only started this week and nothing strange has happened.

Definitely doesnt sound like coolant as it is linked with when i accelerate or rev the engine.

Any ideas?

Dunno about your disco, but when I rev mine it makes the coolant pump spin at a proportionate rate to the engine revs.

Actually come to think of it last week i drove through a flood too fast and some water got sucked into the air intake.

The engine lost power for about a minute and a load of steam came out the exhaust.

Could this have something to do with it? And what sort of damage could i have done?

Sucking up water could well have bust the head gasket and caused air to get into the coolant, which could be the noise you are hearing.

Still no wiser to finding out what this noise is.

Its only when i start the car and drive it until it gets up to temperature and is linked to when i accelerate.

When i pop the bonnet the coolant header tank looks empty, and if i screw off the lid alot of air is released and the tank fills back up. This does this when the engine is cold.

to start with you need to remove both bungs one on rad other on thermostat housing and fill to overflowing including header tank ,run with heater on full not necessarily fan though,if it still then gets air in and water out check head gasket

Where are the rubber bungs on the thermostat. My thermostat is housed inside a white plastic housing.

I have one bleed hole on the pipe that goes from the block to the rad. And have bled the system properly by opening this and raising the header tank while topping up the system.

Coolant is clear and so is oil.

that's good but not enough... put back just partially the bleed screw and start the engine, u have to wait and top up coolant untill no bubbles are showing there...and make sure u tighten well the tank's cap after that(push the pressure valve from the cap with your finger to make sure it's not blocked)
