Just had my son on the phone, he goes by the name of Valhalla and he's living down in kent, telling me that his p38 diesel has broken down and he says that there's no fuel coming through to the pump. He has checked the fuel pump fuse and relay and they are ok, he had a new fuel filter fitted a while ago so I reckon it must be the fuel lift pump in the tank that's faulty. Has anybody had any experience of this problem or any suggestions. Unfortunately he needed the car early in the morning to get to luton airport to go on holiday but now it's going to be an expensive taxi ride.
Thanks wammers, the car had been running fine apparently but then wouldn't start, engine spins over ok on starter, plenty of fuel in tank but not starting. He called out AA and when he arrived and checked car he said no fuel was getting to the filter so he called out the AA recovery truck so I suppose now the car will have to wait till after my son gets back from his holiday. I just assumed that the in tank lift pump had suddenly failed but it looks like it could be a fault somewhere else. Trouble is i'm too far away to help.

If the tank is below quarter full, a duff lift pump may just stop it running. with the filter off or the inlet pipe removed you should bet a good flow of fuel when the lift pump is activated. Wammers knows the amount, I can never remember. Crap in the tank will also stop fuel getting through and that will stop the engine.

Thanks guys for your advice, my son had an AA recovery truck take the rangie home and at 5.00am this morning he had to take a taxi to luton airport to start his holidays, cost him £100 apparently so he's not very pleased with his p38 letting him down. When he gets back he'll have to sort it out, I'd like to have helped him out but I'm over 200 miles away. Thanks once again.
