Hi, recently got a 96 defender, needing to change drivers door mirror, the star heads on the bolts are well worn on the door side of the hinge, would best way to change them be just to drill the head off and replace,

Welcome to Landyzone, yes just drill them off. Or you could try hammering the next size up torx tool bit into the worn heads, the hammering might help loosen them.

Have a read around the Defender section, there are no 'new' faults on a Landy, just some unusual ones ...
