I have been working my way around understanding the controls of my newly acquired 1979 series 3 and Im curious about the dashboard switch above the steering wheel that pulls out and locks with a turn; nothing seems to light or catch light when I use it.

Any hints about what this could be?

its the emergency flashes, pull it out and put your indicator on - all indicator lights will flash - suposidly!

....but it wont work.if you remove it it aint there so not part of mot.

That sounds awfully like someone's mounted the choke in a strange place. Is it a petrol? How far does it pull out? (the switch, I mean)
