hi guys need help badly ive got p reg p38 was towing trailer
with car on it went up hill all of of a sudden temp gauge hit red and car lost power .started it again but had to keep high revs ,and knockin happined but let the revs go and it dies please help dont know whats up

Knocking was probably due to overheating as this will cause "Pinking"-i.e. pre ignition, in other words the fuel was igniting early because the engine was too hot. What car do you have? Have you lost any coolant?? Could nbe that water is not circulating-partially blocked radiator (Common fault), sticky thermostat etc. Have you had any previous problems with motor running hot??

fault happened at about 1 in mornin waited till about 2 till engine was cold and had to get aa to boster plus jump leads to start and rattle was there on start of engine he said i had cooked the engine water level was ok oil ok, just had to high rev it then let revs go to see if it would idle but no just died straight away
