high range for roads unless you is well and truly stuck. as for the better mpg in low, you might like to have a recheck of your calculations.
just to draw an analogy, would you say it would be more fuel efficient to drive your land rover on the motorway in 1st (or lowest) gear or 5th/4th (or highest gear) ?

How fast did you go in low range?Is it practical to drive to tescos like it?Surely it was apparent wot box to be in.

Could be worse may even be a series
shudder at the thought, all them levers have 100's of studip question with em 
may get a little sick of changing gear tho
I dunno, stick it in fifth, never need to change gear again ... on the roads ...
