Hello All,

New member here...

Posting for a parent and a complete car novice & looking for some advice. He has a 2013 Range rover auto SDV8 A diesel 4367 cc engine, he has been told the engine is completely knackered and that Land rover don't make those engines anymore so can't get a new replacement and the garage ( a land rover specialist) advises refurbs generally aren't great in their view or worth the money. Vehicle has done 65k+ mileage. It's a beautiful car and he would really hate to see it have to be put off the road ( also given it's only just 10 years old!) If anyone could offer any advice on whether refurbed engines are generally ok and/or generally costs to expect or is it game over?
Also a long shot i'm sure.... is there any approach to Landrover for compensation because the car is only 10 years old and it cannot now be replaced with a genuine new part?

Based in Scotland & apologies if this isn't posted in the right place or I haven't given enough info...

Thank you for any advice you can give!

Welcome :)

I find it sad that at 65k the engine is trash. If that is actually true?
I would advise many questions to said stealer, and perhaps a second opinion.

If you ask over in the range rover section somebody may have a name of a good supply of recon engines, be very carful of the scammers.

But first I would really ask many more questions cos I smell somebody that doesn't have a clue.

There are many of us here running TDV8 which is basically the same engine on many more miles without issue.

Good luck.

l think he's come and gone.

There won't be any chance of a contribution from Land Rover on a ten year old vehicle.

l would be interested to know what's "completely knackered" on that engine. If the bottom end is okay it could be rebuilt
