Is it worth getting the grooved ones ie will the braking be more efficient - have to say they are poor at the moment

its a subject for debate - it used to be considered that slotted and grooved were better, but recent braking theory says that just the grooved ones are better as the slots acts like mini-planes and wear the pads quickly. Call EBC and ask them - they will want to know what your application is - road use, off road, racing etc.

Thanks for that - i would rather spend more and live so dont mind the expense just want good stopping for the dosh spent

The brakes on my old 3.9 Vogue SE were the best I've ever experienced on a car, let alone one weighing over 2 tonnes, so a standard system that is working well is up to the job.

You can get front discs and pads for £40 and the rears for £35 from Paddocks, that is as cheap as you're ever gonna get, so I'd find it hard to justify paying nearly 5 times as much for grooved discs. Mind you, haven't had these Paddock ones I've bought for long so can't vouch for their longevity yet.

I would agree with Lanmjdun

I sourced mine out of Paddocks and picked them up whilst in the Matlock area 6 went for the std repl disk with Mintex pads

was a real straight forward job to change all four the disks on the p38 come away with just two phili grub screws

what i did was clean then all down with a presseure washer calipers etc

then got some graphite grey HEATPROOF paint (heatproof til 650f )then sprayed the calipers and disks back & front then carried on with the disk & pad replacement you end up with a fully paited disk & the pads just burn off the part on the disk where they bite -leaving the disk perminantly rust free

put it all back together and now the disks & calipers are a graphite grey (look like brand new unpaited metal) they dont show a bit of rust and look very clean indeed almost 6 months later still look good

Dont forget lots of WD 40 for the removal & a little Copper greese for the re-assembly

PS the std P38 braking is far than adiquate for German autobahn Braking........

Bought some discs from M&M about two years ago and they were on special offer around 13quid apiece I think. Have not had a problem with them and have done over 30000 miles since they were fitted-still as smooth as a babies ass.
