Having accepted a new job which is a fair distance away from where I normally work, I have swapped my Auto disco for a manual one for the small extra mpg improvement. I will not be looking into EDC chips anymore. But on the plus side I have a mechanical pump to play with! It's a nice white manual one, 300tdi 1995, with 70k on the clock, ex MOD radio tester so well looked after.

But it has 2 immediate faults I need to fix, so I am after a little help if anyone has some thoughts on this lot? (tried searching but to no avail)


1) Central locking not working, new alarm unit fitted (1 button) but remote flashes but does not work, all the key in the door does is set the bloody alarm off! Can I swap this unit for a matching 2 button fob and alarm ecu unit that I know works perfectly?

2) It has two sunroofs but they are almost like aftermarket ones, built in handles not winders in the front console like most. They leak like mad, anyone had any experience of these?

1. You may have an iffy actuator in the drivers door also it has been known for the operating cam for the micro switch in the do to break.
As far as the flashing indicators go u will have to check for an output from the alarm ecu to relay.

2. Two button system has passive immobilising function , one button is active immobilising so the two are not comparable.

Hmmm, I wonder if the handset needs codeing in then.

If I cant get it to work then then il hard wire an aftermarket kit into the loom and be done with it.

Dunno about the leccy, but for the sunroofs I'd just seal them with Sikaflex or similar, both inside and out and remove the winders so no-one tries to open them.

I have never seen one's like this before, they don't have winders, just a push button and a lever that lifts the window up.
They are getting the duck tape treatment for the time being lol
