Hi
i have just got a 2004 td5, it has had a ecu remap done on it, i have a nanocom and have removed the map from it. I went to put it into the wifes disco and it wont let me. If i try to instal the tun file it comes up WRONG VIN if i read map it says protected file do i want to save it as a tun file. i have nanocom and winOLS . If anyone can help me install it into other disco i would be happy to give them a copy of the map

IIRC only the later ecu had a 'flashable' map so you might be trying to update an early ecu. Sorry can't help with which year, but the clue that reminded me was

If i try to instal the tun file it comes up WRONG VIN if i read map it says protected file

HTH :)

Aren't they mapped to a specific vehicle and software then locked?

ISTR someone else trying the same (or similar) and concensus was you couldn't .. unless you were extremely clever at maths and stuff ... ;)

Dunno, I just recall that either the software or hardware was locked to a vehicle. I may be completely wrong or it may be a different mapping software/hardware ...

Tuned engine files are locked and cant be put on another car (unless you are good at cracking protected files!!) other wise they would be all over flebay for £3.99
