Hi
It's just dawned on me that since the last MOT expired, I've replaced a couple of injectors, camshaft, cylinder head etc. It's obviously not been driven since, so no drive cycle to learn new fuel trims etc.
Does that mean it's pretty much guaranteed to fail on emissions? It's a 4.0 Thor and it's a 200 yard drive to the MOT
 
Chances are it will be better than before the work was done is my guess?

You’ve worked on it a long time to get to this stage. It’s just usual pre MOT panic for someone put this much heartache in.

If I told my Indy what you just said I’m sure he’d stick his trade plates on it and take it for a blast to make me feel better ;)
 
Cheers, it's got to be loads better, yes. For starters all the valves are opening!! But with all the changes, the trims will be grossly out
 
I'm not happy that it sounds like one of the new tappets is well, rather tappety! Fingers crossed a good run will get the oil pumping and sort it out
 
Trims will have it running sweet by the time the engine is warm as long as things are within range of acceptable.
When I reset my trims, they're back where they started withing 30 seconds.
They adjust big errors very quickly then just minor trims as you're driving.

Everything will need to ‘bed in’. Put a few hundred easy-driving miles on it then see what it’s like.
 
I'd go the long way if I were you. Get it lovely and warm and burn all that condensation out of the engine and exhaust.

I'll have to do the same. Got to arrange a test when places start opening.
 
MOT for one of mine is next Tuesday, got to do a service and wash off the minor oil leaks before then
 
They seem to have better opinion if a vehicle has had a wash underneath? Mud can hide things and I’d rather have it on show for them. They will fail it for minor things but don’t tend to charge me when it goes back for a bulb or something they just like to check it is done. Having a vehicle that has its own character usually means they remember it and notice it’s had work done since they last saw it not that it’s getting worse as most they see do.
 
Don’t think you’ve ever showed us a pic? Wish I took few day1 so I could see how rough it was when I picked it up :(
 
I shall take one and upload it tonight! if its not tipping down pretty standard with original tattyness but 19" wheels that need to go
 
People often say I have a nice truck and want to go for spin. It’s still tatty in some respects.
Originally they would laugh, say it’s scrap.
How a wax and wash all the gunk off it changes their view :rolleyes:
