Hi,

Ive had my disco 1 300 tdi for a month now.... I went to kirton (nr S****horpe) last week and got stuck in the water. which resulted in hydrolock. Should've got a snorkel!.... Ive managed to sort the alarm and changed the oil and all filters but I have a 'miss'... Ive changed the injector on no.2 because it wasn't working properly but it hasnt sorted it. I'm thinking its a bent a rod... the miss is at 1500-2000 revs and is down on power when driving. It smokes (white) on cold start but clears when its warm.

Does anybody have any ideas?

How easy is it to change a rod without taking the engine out on a 300tdi?

compression test first.

yu need to remove head and sump to do a rod. It may have done other damage first. Start with the easy stuff.

Im gonna take the head off and take it from there... If it is a conrod, where's the best place to get one from (online). There doesn't seem to be any on fleabay.

An update...

I took the head off, did a bit of investigating and found that cyclinder 2 had more travel than the rest when tdc. Bent rod! A good friend had a 300tdi bottom end in bit's so I pinched a piston and rod and used the shells from my bent rod...

I've put it back together, thankyou haynes manual. Started it up and... sweet as a nut.
The hydrolock knackered the turbo too so ive changed that too. The problem is I think ive set the boost a bit low with the actuator, nothing a bit of tweaking won't sort.

Roll on kirton next weekend.

how do you turn the boost up on a 300tdi and will it adversally effect heating overheating in mind, wouldnt mind giving mine a bit more umph de-egr it going to de cat next

Same as any turbo engine. shorten the rod on the actuator. But as i'm sure somebody will clarify im sure its not advisable without knowing what your doing as you can do damage. I'm not sure what happens when you increase the boost on a 300tdi.

When I fited the acutator to the turbo on my disco I set the rod on the actuator too long...i.e the boost is a bit low. I'm going to check it with a boost gauge and set it to standard.
