Going in for the timing chain change soon(when I'ved saved up me pennies for "all" the bits.) Question.. Due to the cost of the sprockets, (ouch) are there measurements I can take on the sprockets to identify any wear on them.
For info, 185k miles on the engine with no history before 150k when I got it.

At that mileage I'd do the sprockets regardless.

I'm sure there is a formula regarding sprockets......
For bikes,
If they're pointy change em!!

For engines, pity the fool that ignores them.

No, but Mrs Bagshots credit card will do after this round of bits..
I was only wondering if there were obvious signs of wear to look for, I read a lot of mentions of chains and sprockets but it seems not one without the other.

TBH, I'm just in one of those 'answer everything' moods,

Chain rollers are hardened, probably the sprocket also, but the action of the rollers on the root of a sprocket and it's torque side will always induce wear.

I wonder how many revolutions your engine has done?

Wammers reckons they're already worn at 110k miles. The ends will be blunted. Take pictures of both when you get them out. As long as you don't get them from Island you can return them if you don't use them.
