guess im lucky!!

since I've bought my 90 I havent bothered with the cambelt, previous owner didnt know when it was done either.. so I just been driving it as it is.

after my crusade this summer getting it all sorted, welded, waxoyled and new suspension I decided to get the cambelt done.

as its something crucial, I gave it to my mate who's a LR guru to get it done, as if I do it I'll keep worrying if I've done it properly.

he just called me saying I was lucky, he got the casing out and the whole thing is caked in mud, there's bits coming off the belt and the rollers are all shot!

I always use wadding plugs, so I guess this has been like that since the last owner had..

lucky! very lucky!!
going to stop over later today and get some pics of it

that's good timing mate ,very fortunate to catch it before it went ,I keep putting off doing mine as when i put the 200 lump in me 90 i was flat broke, must get it done soon though,

Thats where you have been going wrong:D:D

I know! havent got round to fit the breather yet! i understand that if the plug is there, the casing has no where to "breath" when hit by cold water, so it sucks water through the gaskets....

the breather allows for when it needs to breath, there's a clean run of pipe to suck air from....

Good shout, my belt needs doing soon!

need new water pump too, mine is wobbling all over the place and the bearings are completly shot!!

nice pic JP, but I noticed the difference twixt your an mine was I had a stud in the very top hole above the cam drive..
took me 2 days to get cover off without breaking it!

yep.... took 4h and a lot of heat to get that one out, it goes right into the head..the nut was seized solid and the hole stud had to come out!

luckly it didnt snap!
