I have both a Disco 2 (TD5)and Disco 3 (2009) 2.7 Diesel and wanted to buy some sort of diagnostic reader. I have read that the Launch CRP123 is a good one. I don't want to pay much over £150 and was wondering which reader others feel is good for the home DIY mechanic

I have an Icarsoft I930, which on the whole is OK. There's a few glitches with the software on my Freelander 1, but it's pretty comprehensive and is under £100. I'm not sure if it covers the td5, although it does cover the D3.
